Last month, Dream Local Digital brought all members (#HoneyBadgers) of the team to its home office in Rockland, Maine, for an all-company summit. Members of our team joined us in the snow from five states (as far away as Texas) to learn about our new products, dissect the work we do, discuss our goals for 2018, analyze ways we can continue to improve, and of course, celebrate our company together.
It was emotional and energizing to see team members promoted and recognized for their hard work and growth and to hear many different team members voice their appreciation for others and the work they do. As a digital company with many remote staff members, we spend much of our work-life interaction in email, Zoom video calls, and other online collaborations. It was inspiring to all be together in a single location.
Team Collaboration elicits passion for customer success
My favorite segment of the summit was an exercise, facilitated by our Client Strategy and Brand Manager, that included our entire staff. We dissected social media content that works (Engagement & ROI) and why. We divided into teams that included strategists, content creators, editors, project managers, sales staff, finance team members and administrative staff to “build” posts for a local plumbing and heating company (not yet a client).
The facilitator gave everyone a short business brief about the company and a link to its website. Each team had to analyze the business and mock up two social media posts using poster board, markers and magazines. When the work was done, everyone voted for their favorite posts by using sticker icons representing “likes,” shares, and clicks for the ones they would engage with personally. The exercise generated a lot of laughs, some great post ideas, and great concluding conversation about why certain posts worked and which were likely to provide an ROI that would impact the business.
Even with all of that, my favorite part was the team interaction. I am constantly impressed by our team and how they collaborate together even across diverse roles to help generate quality work and ideas. Our project managers, finance team, and administrative staff was just as involved as those who create content every day, and it was energizing to watch the teams interact and get passionate about good content. Plumbing and heating is not always the most engaging Facebook content, but when our team works for a business, it’s our goal to change that and find a way to get the attention of the target audience and get people to take action in a way that will help our clients make money.
Our team is one of the many reasons that we continue to be a best-of-breed solution for businesses and for our partners across the United States. Even in our daily work, we use Workplace by Facebook to collaborate on projects; share industry trends and best practices, upcoming product releases, and trouble-shoot challenges as they arrive. This has become an integral part of our culture and allows each person to influence the entire company and keep us all informed and current with what is happening in our industry as well as what is working for our clients. As our company continues to grow, we will continue to have in-person summits, and I look forward to each of them and the improvements to our company that they will bring.
